2 held for collecting Ganesh Puja ‘donations’ in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested two youths on charges of forcibly collecting Ganesh Puja donations in the Odisha capital here.

A patrolling team of Khandagiri police arrested the two youths from a locality near the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS)-Bhubaneswar, sources said.

The police also seized Rs 2,050 and two receipt books from the arrested youths, sources said.

The Commissionerate Police had earlier issued a helpline number to check extortion during the ongoing festive season in the capital city.

The police urged people to lodge their complaints regarding extortion thorough helpline number 7077798111.

Issuing the helpline number, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prateek Singh had said the Commissionerate Police would adopt a zero tolerance policy towards extortion during the festive season.

“The people can lodge their complaints through WhatsApp or text messages. They can also inform any extortion case to the Commissionerate Police through its Facebook and Twitter (X) accounts. The identities of the complainants will not be revealed to anyone,” said the DCP.
