Jagatsinghpur: Two kanwariyas were swept away and went missing while taking holy dip in Devi river at Ketakeswar ghat near Alipingal village in Jagatsinghpur district, today evening.

After a frantic search carried out by a team of local fire services personnel for more than an hour, one of the kanwariyas was rescued, whose identity has not been ascertained yet. However, the other is a minor boy from Bidyadharpur village and is still missing, an official in the team expressed.

According to an eyewitness, the two kanwariyas had gone to the river to lift rainwater and offer the same to Lord Shiva at a Shaivite shrine elsewhere. “The two went deep into the water and were swept away due to a transient flow of water in the river,” the eyewitness stated.
