At least two persons died and 12 others, including 2 children, sustained critical injuries when a van in which they were travelling turned turtle at Jurajam ghat under Kinjirkela police station in Odisha's Sundargarh district last night.

The deceased were identified as Sumira Khakha and Buduni Minj. The injured have been admitted to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital.

According to reports, the accident took place when the victims were returning home in the van after attending a marriage party in Balisankara here.

The driver of the ill-fated van lost control over the wheels at Jurajam ghat following which the vehicle dashed against a roadside tree and fell off the ghat.

Two women were crushed to death under the van at the spot.
