2 labourers dead, 1 more critically injured in landslide in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Joda: Two labourers were killed and one more sustained grievous injuries in an incident of landslide that took place today afternoon at Kamarajoda on Joda-Bamebari Expressway under Joda police limits in Keonjhar district.

The deceased were identified as Arjun Lohar and Charan Lohar, who belonged to Dalaka Hating locality of Kalapahada under Joda in the district. The injured has been identified as Mukesh Sardar.

According to a source, the fatal mishap occurred when a pipe laying work was underway. The three labourers including a few others were engaged in the work by a local contractor. They got trapped due to a sudden landslide and were buried under the soil leading to the two deaths on the spot.

The injured was later rescued and immediately admitted to the community health centre (CHC) in Joda in critical condition for treatment. “The man is not out of danger,” a doctor treating him expressed.

“A drainage pipeline laying work was underway at around 3.00 PM by engaging a JCB machine and a tunnel was being dug. Two persons died as the rescue operation got delayed,” some locals said.

On being informed, Joda police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation, which is underway.

Tension erupted in the work site following the incident and was brought under control by the police.
