2 minor sisters drown while taking bath in pond in Odisha’s Ganjam; bodies recovered

Hinjili: In a tragic mishap, two minor sisters meet their watery grave today while taking a bath in a pond at Kirtipur village of Narendrapur panchayat under Sheragada block in Ganjam.

The deceased girls were identified as 10-year-old Roshani Rout and seven-year-old Sandhya Rout. The two minors were the daughters of Reena Rout from Kirtipur village in the district.

According to a source, Reena is a daily wager and she stays outside the State to eke out her living and support the family. Hence, the sister duo were residing at their maternal grandfather Narshu Palei’s house. The fatal mishap took place when they had gone to the pond along with their grandfather.

Some locals fished out the bodies of Roshani and Sandhya from the water after striving for hours.

On being informed, Hinjili police reached the spot and seized the bodies and initiated a probe.

A pall of gloom descended on the village after news of the untimely deaths spread.
