Bhadrak: In a shocking incident, a minor students of a private school reportedly left their hostel to end their lives over alleged torture by teachers in Bhadrak district of Odisha. Locals spotted the children wandering alone and informed police who reached the spot and rescued them.

As per reports, the minors were studying at Arabind Purnanga Sikhya Kendra in Erein village within Bhadrak Rural police limits and staying in the hostel where they were being treated in an inhumane manner. The children claimed that the teachers were not just barring them from talking to their parents but also beating them up and asking them to do manual work. Unable to bear the harrassment, they left the hostel. The minors then walked around 4 km and were spotted by some shopkeepers near Charampa. On being asked, the children said they were going to end their lives as they did not like their life in the hostel and could not tolerate the daily torment they were subjected to.

Sharing their ordeal, the minor girl said they were kept in extremely poor conditions. "We were asked to clean the floor. When our parents, who live in Kolkata, call, one of the teachers used to snatch the phone and ask them not to call us again. They would beat us and at times, not even allow us to go to the toilet. Even the food given to us was unpalatable. I did not like my life there. So I left," she told mediapersons.

"The children were seen crying and walking alone towards the village. They came over to the shop. When we asked, they said they left the school as they were being beaten up and not allowed to talk to their families.  I then made them sit in the shop," one of the locals Rupa Sahni said.

Meanwhile, one of the school authorities who arrived after a while, was detained by angry locals. He, however, refuted allegations of torture by teachers at the institute. "I have no idea what happened. I just got to know about the incident and came here as soon as I got the information," he claimed.
