Bhubaneswar: An Anganwadi worker allegedly died by suicide in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district today.

The deceased has been identified as Sabita Mohanty (40) of Hansipatna village under Soro police limits in Balasore.

Sabita was working as an Anganwadi worker at her village for last eight years.

Sabita did not return home after performing her duties at the Anganwadi centre today morning.

Sabita’s family members launched a frantic search to trace her. Later, she was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside the Anganwadi centre, which was locked from inside.

Sabita’s family members along with the villagers rushed her to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Soro after breaking open the door of the Anganwadi centre. She was declared brought dead by the doctors.

On being informed, police reached the hospital and sent the body for postmortem after registering a case in this regard.

Sabita’s 17-year-old son had reportedly ended his life by hanging self around two months ago.

She might have killed herself due to mental depression, villagers said.
