2 persons critically injured after being scalded by hot dal in Odisha’s Srimandir

Puri: Two persons engaged as Bojhia (people who carry Mahaprasad) at Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri sustained severe burn injuries today as hot dal fell on them while they were carrying the Mahaprasad atop their heads to Bhoga Mandap of the Vaishnavite shrine.

The injured were identified as 30-year-old Pupi Pradhan and 35-year-old Pradeep Sahu. Pupi belongs to Talajanga village under Chandanpur police limits and Pradeep hails from Brahmagiri in the district.

A few servitors along with devotees, who were present nearby, rescued the two injured and rushed them to district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Puri town for treatment.

According to an official, the mishap took place in the afternoon. The legs of Pupi and Pradeep slipped due to reasons not known leading to the mishap. Their condition was stable till the filing of this report.

Worth mentioning, two persons namely Duryodhan Pradhan of Kanthapur in Mangalapatana locality and Mania Behera of Jagannath slum of Mishra Sahi in Puri town were previously injured in a similar incident. Initially, they were admitted to the DHH here and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their conditions deteriorated.
