2 youths hacked to death with iron rod over land deal in Sundargarh

Rourkela: A man and his wife allegedly killed two youths by attacking the latter with an iron rod over a land deal at Construction Colony under Tangarpali police limits in Rourkela of Sundargarh, today.

The two deceased were identified as 30-year-old Sanjaya Das and 34-year-old Indrajeet Swain, both of whom belonged to Red Tank (Lal Tanki) locality in the city.

A senior official at Tangarpali police station said that the two youths were contract labourers. As the accused man owns a patch of land and was intending to sell it for money, he had entered into a deal with the duo. Accordingly, they had paid advance money to purchase the said land.

Subsequently, the land owner did not want to dispose of the land and cheated the buyer duo.

Earlier in the day at around 4 pm, Sanjaya and Indrajeet approached the land owner and asked him to refund their advance money. Later, an altercation ensued between them leading to their untimely death.

In a fit of rage, the accused couple attacked the youths and killed them on the spot. The accused couple fled from the spot soon after committing the crime, the senior official stated.

Tangarpali police recovered the bodies of Sanjaya and Indrajeet and sent them to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) for post-mortem. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe to ascertain the motive behind the crime, which is underway.
