20 months’ RI for ex Odisha IAS officer in DA case

Bhubaneswar, Dec 1:

The Special Vigilance Court here today convicted retired Odisha cadre IAS officer Ramesh Chandra Behera of graft and sentenced him to 20 months of rigorous imprisonment (RI) possession of aseets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The vigilance court found Behera guilty of possessing disproportionate assests worth Rs 3.48 lakhs and also imposed a fine of Rs 34, 800 on him. If he fails to pay the fine, he would have to undergo as further 3 months of RI, the court ordered.

Tthe judgment came 24 years after the charge was first levelled against him by the vigilance.

Acting on a vigilance PS case number 46/90, the court on March 7, 2011 had confisticated a farm house beloging to Behera at Berhampur. The seized farm house was later used by the state government as an agricultural institution.

Behera retired as additional secretary in the Housing and Urban department.
