Cuttack: A girl was killed on the spot as she came in contact with a live wire in CDA Sector-VI of Cuttack district, today. The 20-year-old deceased was identified as Kandhei Das, who belonged to Hairanpur slum in the locality.
According to a local police official, the fatal incident occurred during the observance of Khudurukuni Osha. Unfortunately, the girl came in contact with a service electrical wire passing near her house. She got electrocuted leading to her untimely demise.
On being informed about the mishap, a team of police reached the spot and initiated a probe. Police have sent the girl’s body to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.
In another incident earlier in the day, a minor girl was swept away by the surging rainwater of a river and she later went missing at Atharabanki locality in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district.
The incident took place when the girl had gone to the river along with some of her friends to perform Baluka Puja (a typical ritual) on the occasion of Khudurukuni Osha. She has been identified as 14-year-old Arati Mallick, who hails from Atharabanki area.
Despite a frantic search carried out by fire services personnel, Arati has not been traced.
