Bhubaneswar: As many as 38 people, including 22 women, were today arrested for attacking a police team in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on May 29.
At least three police officers were injured in the attack at Belapal village in Mayurbhanj.
Prabodh Bhuiyan of Belapal had been attacked with sword by some people over a land dispute on May 29. Prabodh had sustained critical injuries in the attack.
Seeking stern action against the attackers, the villagers staged a road blockade in the locality. The police resorted to baton charge after the villagers refused to lift the road blockade.
The agitators too attacked the police personnel. At least three police officers, including the Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) and Sub-Inspector (SI) of Badasahi police, were injured in the attack.
The villagers had also vandalized the vehicles of the police team.
The cops today arrested 38 villagers, 22 women and 16 men, in connection with the assault. All the accused have been produced in a local court.
