23 Maoist supporters surrender in Odisha’s Malkangiri district

Malkangiri, Apr 1:

In a major setback to Maoist movement in Odisha, nearly two dozen supporters of the outlawed group surrendered before police in Malkangiri district today.

According to reports, 23 rebel supporters, including 11 women cadres, surrendered before cops at Kalimela police station in the district. The surrendered include four militia members, sources said.

All the 23 surrendered belong to Elakanur village under Kalimela police limits.

The villagers said that they were disillusioned by the Maoist ideology and wanted to join the mainstream.

The development comes after two villagers were killed by the Maoists in the last two days in the district.
