Bhubaneswar, Jan 17 :

Protesting against the acts of vandalism inside the premises of Odia daily “The Samaj” in Cuttack by some anti-social elements on January 14, activists of Viswa Sambad Kendra led by the president Raghunath Pati observed a silent protest at Lower PMG Square here on Friday.

Condemning the act, the people drawn from different walks of life who took part in the protest said that the act of the anti-socials, who damaged the statue of Utkalamani Gopabandhu in protest against a photograph published on January 14, was an attack on the pride of Odisha and the fourth pillar of democracy.

The activists demanded a thorough probe into the matter and stern action against the criminals involved in the incident.

They also demanded immediate release of the journalist who was arrested by the police for the publication of an objectionable photograph and compensation to The Samaj towards the loss of its property after due assessment.
