28,074 posts lying vacant in Odisha Police: Minister

Bhubaneswar: Total 28,074 posts in various ranks are lying vacant in Odisha Police, informed Home (MoS) Minister Tusharkanti Behera in Odisha Assembly here today.

In a reply to BJD MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik to a question in Odisha Assembly, the Minister told the House that several sanctioned posts in various categories in Odisha Police are lying vacant.

He presented a list of sanctioned posts that are vacant under different categories in the State Police.

As per the list, the highest number of 14,037 posts are lying vacant in Group-D against total number of 69,692 sanctioned posts under the category followed by 11,620 Group-C posts out of 62,199 sanctioned posts and 2,120 Group-B posts out of 6,454 sanctioned posts.

Of total 1,039 sanctioned posts, 297 posts are vacant in Odisha Police in Group-A category.

The Department has initiated process to collect complete data on number of police personnel being sent to various departments including Transport on deputation, the Minister stated.

When asked about the time bound for filling the vacant posts under various Groups in Odisha Police with growing number of crimes, the Minister said that new posts are being created from period to period as per the requirement. The State Government is taking necessary steps to fill the posts based on new selection, promotion and transfer.
