29-year-old man tests positive for Omicron variant in Mumbai despite taking three doses of Pfizer vaccine

Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: A 29-year-old man tested positive for Covid-19’s Omicron variant in Mumbai on Friday despite taking three doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the man had returned from New York.

The 29-year-old had tested positive for Covid-19 in a test carried out at the airport on November 9, the BMC said. According to reports, his samples were then sent for genome sequencing. BMC added that two of his ‘high-risk contacts’ have tested negative for Covid-19.

“The patient has been admitted to a hospital as a precautionary measure and he has no symptoms,” BMC said in a release.

The latest case took the total tally of Omicron patients in Mumbai to 15 out of which 13 have already been discharged from hospitals. None of the 15 Omicron patients reported severe Covid-related symptoms, as per the BMC.

Meanwhile, In the last 24 hours, India registered 7,145 new Covid-19 cases and 289 deaths, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
