3 arrested; narcotics, liquor worth lakhs seized

Bhubaneswar, July 15:

Commissionerate Police (CP) today arrested three persons in two separate raids for their alleged involvement in selling narcotic substances like ganja and alcohol in the city.

The police have also seized total 44 kg of Ganja, 20 packets of Aska-40 country made liquor containing 500 bottles, one car and an autorickshaw from their possession together worth lakhs of rupees.

The Quick Action Team (QAT) of the CP, acting on reliable information, intercepted a WagonR car bearing number- OR-02-BS-3654 carrying 44 kg of ganja in three bags and arrested the accused named Chittaranjan Sahoo (36) hailing from Thakurpatna in Kendrapara district who is at present staying in Laxmisagar area in the city.

Police have registered case no- 237/14 and slapped charges under section 20 (b)(ii)(c) Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Sahoo.

In another surprise raid by QAT, Prasanta Sethi (25) of Mali Colony and Mukesh Behera (20) of Shanti Nagar, both under Kharvela Nagar police limits in the city, were arrested while transporting 20 packets of Aska 40 country made liquor in an autorickshaw bearing no.- OR-02-BM-0365 near Bomikhal in the city.

Police have registered a case and slapped charges under sections 47 (a) Bihar and Odisha Excise Act against the duo.

All accused were forwarded to a local court here today, police sources added.
