3 dead, 7 hurt as auto-rickshaw falls off ghat road in Odisha’s Gajapati

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, three persons were killed and seven others sustained critical injuries when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in overturned and fell 20-feet below the Keredang ghat road in Gajapati district of Odisha today.

A man, a woman and a two-year old child were killed in the mishap, sources said.

The deceased have been identified as Luko Mandal of Kulesingh village, Dili Kar of Badapada and Pratyush Karji of Jalang, sources added.

The mishap took place when the auto-rickshaw was carrying passengers from Keredang to Nuagada under R. Udayagiri police limits around the noon.

The auto-rickshaw overturned and fell 20-feet below the road when the driver lost control over the vehicle, sources said.

On being informed, the police and Fire Brigade personnel reached the spot and rescued the injured persons.

One injured person was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur while other three have been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Parlakhemundi, police said.

“We have seized the bodies and sent them for postmortem,” said a police officer.
