Koraput: Three women were killed today and a few more are feared dead in an incident of landslide that occurred near Mangala Mandir under Kolab outpost limits in Koraput.
The deceased women were identified as Champa Badanayak, Purni Badanayak, and Sannati Jani. The three women belonged to nearby Salmanguda village in the district.
According to a source, around ten persons including women from Salmanguda village had gone to the quarry to dig murram. When they were digging at the site, a large patch of land suddenly caved in leading to the fatal mishap. Some of them got buried under the murram soil.
Two of them died on the spot and their bodies were recovered by a rescue team. The third woman was rescued later on by the team, but unfortunately could not be saved. The rescue operation by local admin with the help of some residents was underway till the time when this report was filed.
On being informed, a team of Kolab police reached the spot and launched a probe into the deaths.
