Bhubaneswar: Three persons were electrocuted and two others sustained critical injuries in two separate incidents during Bahuda Jatra in Odisha today.
In the first incident, two persons were electrocuted when the flag of the chariot came in contact with a live wire at Kendua in Keonjhar district during the festival in the afternoon. Another person also sustained mishap in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Jugal Kishore Barik (40) of Bhubanpashi and Baruna Giri (42) of Kendua. Sankarshan Pradhan of Nahabeda sustained injuries in the incident, said a local.
In another incident, a 26-year-old man was electrocuted during Bahuda Jatra at Kolab Nagar in Koraput district today.
The deceased has been identified as Babula Nayak of the locality.
The incident took place when the flag of the chariot came in contact with a live wire. Another person, identified as Krishna Rao, sustained injuries in the incident.
The locals, meanwhile, blamed the callousness of the Electricity department for the mishap.
“The power connection to the locality was not snapped during the Bahuda Jatra. As a result, the mishap took place and a person lost his life,” said a local.
