3 more Covid-19 cases detected in Odisha taking active infection tally to eight

Bhubaneswar: At least three fresh Covid-19 infections were detected today in Odisha, taking the total number of active cases in the State to eight. Swab samples of the coronavirus patients were sent for genome sequencing to ascertain if there is any presence of JN.1 variant or not.

As per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, around 692 Covid-19 infections were detected in India during the last 24 hours taking the total number of active cases in the country to 4,097.

“District Administration has disseminated Covid-19 guidelines that it received from the Government. We have requested denizens to follow the prescribed norms,” Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida earlier said.

“We have already sensitised our officials concerned and are prepared as of date. The swab sample testing process is on. Not a single case has been detected in Ganjam so far. However, residents of the district must follow prescribed Covid-19 safety protocols to keep the viral disease at bay,” CDMO Uma Shankar Mishra had expressed when contacted yesterday.

Worth mentioning, JN.1 variant has been spreading in several parts of southern India. Odisha reported its first Covid-19 infection on December 23. The State government has advised elderly persons and those with co-morbidities to wear masks and adhere to social distancing norms.

Most of the JN.1 variant cases have been detected in Kerala and the infected are elderly persons and those with co-morbidities.
