3 of family die after scooter skids 200 metre off Ghat road in Odisha’s Koraput

Narayanapatana: In a tragic road mishap, at least three members of a family were killed on the spot as the scooter on which they were travelling skidded off Kasam Ghat road in Langalbeda panchayat under Narayanapatana police limits of Koraput district, today evening.

The three deceased were identified as 19-year-old Jaya Raju, 20-year-old Mari Shiva and 21-year-old Malika Balaraju. They belonged to Anasabhadra village under Makkuva panchayat in Parvathipuram Manyam district of Andhra Pradesh.

According to a police source, the trio was on their way from Andhra Pradesh to elsewhere in Odisha. After losing control of the ill-fated vehicle, its driver dashed the scooter against a large rock on the roadside. Following this, the two-wheeler skidded off the Ghat road and fell 200 metre below it leading to their untimely deaths. The scooter was mangled almost beyond recognition, the cop said.

On being informed by some locals, Narayanapatana police reached the accident site and seized the three bodies and launched a probe into the fatal mishap. The bodies were recovered after striving for about an hour,” a senior official expressed.

“Post-mortem of the bodies was not done after the fall of night. Family members of the deceased youths have arrived in Koraput,” the official added.
