3 persons die on the spot after speeding private bus hits 2 two-wheelers in series

Puri: Three persons including a couple were killed on the spot today after two two-wheelers on which they were travelling were hit in series by a speeding private bus in front of Omkareswar temple on Mangalaghat-Sterling Chhak bypass road in Puri.

Two of the deceased were identified as Satya Niranjan Dash (55) and his wife Gayatri Dash (50), who belonged to a village under Chhatrapur block of Ganjam district. The third deceased was identified as Rakesh Nanda (20), who belonged to Mangalaghat locality of Puri.

Rakesh was the friend of Satya Niranjan’s nephew. Gayatri was the pillion rider and was travelling on Rakesh’s scooter and Satya Niranjan was travelling on another two-wheeler, an eyewitness said.

The trio was on their way back home after attending a Nirbandh ritual in the town.

Satya Niranjan and Rakesh were waiting on the roadside at Omkareswar Chhak before negotiating to approach a national highway when they were hit by the bus.

Meanwhile, driver of the bus surrendered before Baselisahi police following the tragic road mishap.

Local police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
