3 poachers caught while lighting fire in Karlapat sanctuary of Odisha’s Kalahandi, arrested

Bhubaneswar: With forest fire incidents on the rise in several parts across Odisha and several of them being man-made, at least three poachers were caught red-handed last night by a team of alert forest personnel, while the trio was igniting fire in Karlapat sanctuary in Kalahandi district.

Taking to the official Twitter handle, PCCF (wildlife) & chief wildlife warden (CWLW), Odisha wrote, “Three Poachers trying to lit up fire in Karlapat sanctuary were arrested and two country rifles were seized yesterday night in Kalahandi district.”

Worth mentioning, the rising number of wildfires has raised the concern of many environmentalists and nature lovers. About 4,419 fire points were detected in different forests of the State during the last seven days, a Forest Survey of India (FSI) data revealed today.

About 5,375 fire points were detected in different forests between April 13 and April 20.
