Machhkund: Three policemen working in Machhkund PS were transferred to the district headquarters today over the alleged third-degree torture of a local businessman identified as P Shiva in Koraput. The IIC of the PS was also slapped show-cause notice in this regard by Department higher-ups.
The accused policemen are Lamataput outpost in-charge Chitra Pradhani, constable Bhuban Nayak, and havildar Jagdish Bagh.
According to a source, the victim had previously given a written complaint to South Western Range DIG Charan Singh Meena alleging third-degree torture. A Departmental inquiry was subsequently initiated at Machhkund PS and Lamataput outpost, which is still underway.
Shiva was picked by police on January 10 in connection with a case after he was allegedly caught by a complainant while the former was secretly capturing video of the complainant and his wife at night near the latter’s house. The complainant had submitted a video as proof, which is said to have been taken when Shiva was running away to escape, the source added.
The victim businessman was allegedly given third-degree torture by police.
