3 workers critically injured as oxygen cylinder blasts in Odisha’s Keonjhar district

Barbil: Three workers sustained grievous injuries after an oxygen cylinder exploded in Arya Iron & Steel Company Private Limited (AISCO)’s 1.2MTPA iron ore pellet plant in Barbil of Keonjhar, today.

The injured persons were identified as Prem Shankar Sharma, Krishna Das and Karan Mahanta.

An eyewitness said that the fatal mishap took place when oxygen cylinders were being unloaded inside the plant premises. The three workers belong to Barbil locality in the district. The injured were rescued and immediately admitted to a nearby health facility for treatment.

Later, the workers were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their conditions deteriorated.

“Two of the injured persons named Krishna and Karan are labourers engaged in the cylinder-laden truck and the third is an employee of Arya Iron & Steel Company. The three sustained severe injuries on their chests and faces including eyes,” driver of the vehicle Sachin Kumar stated.
