3-yr jail term for ex-IAS Vinod Kumar, 5 others in housing scam

This is the fifth consecutive Vinod Kumar who was the former MD of ORHDC.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance Court today convicted former IAS officer Vinod Kumar along with five others of corruption in the Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) scam with a three-year jail term. They had been chargesheeted under Section 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and under section 467,468,471, 420, 120(B) IPC.

This is the fifth consecutive Vinod Kumar who was the former MD of ORHDC. He, along with company secretary Swostiranjan Mohapatra, Jr loan officer Satyaprakash Behera and Assistant System Analyst Jnanendra Swain was sentenced by Special Vigilance Judge, BBSr to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for three years and pay pay fine of Rs 50000 in default further RI for six months on each of the offences

Convict Debadutta Ray and Bibhuti Bhusan Swain were sentenced to undergo RI for 3 years each and to pay fine of Rs 50000 in default to undergo RI for six months under section 420, 467,468,471, 120(B) IPC. All the sentences are to run concurrently.

The case was investigated by former DSP Vigilance Sarat Mohapatra and DP Tripathi and prosecuted by Special Public Prosecutor of Odisha Vigilance Hemant Kumar Swain.
