30 died of JE, AES claimed 53 lives: Odisha Health Services Director

Bhubaneswar, Nov 7:

While the unofficial death toll in Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has reached close to 100 in Malkangiri district, Odisha Health Services Director Kailash Chandra Dash today said that 30 children have so far died due to the vector borne disese.

"Japanese Encephalitis has claimed lives of 30 children and 53 kids have succumbed to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) so far. The total death toll stands at 83," said Dash.

A total of 295 affected persons have undergone treatment, he said.

A Microbiological team is scheduled to visit visit the affected areas soon and take stock of the situation, Dash added.
