30 middlemen arrested from RTOs and hospitals across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Following the directive of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Collectors, SPs and Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), police today arrested 30 middlemen from different RTO offices and hospitals across the State.

Reportedly, five middlemen were arrested from each of the districts of Sambalpur and Bolangir whereas four persons each were held in Bhubaneswar and Bhadrak.

Similarly, three brokers were nabbed each in RTO offices in Mayurbhanj and Balasore. Police arrested two middlemen in Nabarangpur.

Following raids, police detained 14 brokers from the RTO office and hospitals in Rourkela.

Earlier in the day, during a video conferencing at the Lok Seva Bhavan, the CM asked district administration officials to make RTOs across the state broker-free within 15 days.

He also directed for stringent action against drunk driving and reckless driving. He also laid emphasis on providing first-aid treatment to road accident victims. As road safety and traffic rule awareness play key roles in curbing accidents, sensitization drives should be conducted at schools, colleges and roads, the CM said.
