31 students of NISER Bhubaneswar test COVID +ve; Containment Zone declared

Bhubaneswar: As many as 31 students of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar have tested positive for COVID-19, informed Jatni Tahsildar Tapan Mohapatra today.

A hostel of the educational institution has been declared as containment zone to curb the spread of the virus. Inmates of the hostel will remain inside while outsiders will not be allowed to enter the hostel.

The infectees have been kept in isolation at the hostel. The NISER campus will be sanitised as a part of precautionary measure, the official said.

Sources said the infectees are first year students of NISER. They were staying at the hostel after the admission process.

The state today registered huge spike in COVID-19 cases as 680 more persons, including 119 children below 18 years of age, tested positive for COVID-19.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state, which was below 1% for the last couple of months, reached 1.31%.

A total of 51,745 samples were tested in Odisha, yesterday.

Khurda district reported highest 263 fresh infections, followed by Sundargarh (69) and Cuttack (59).

With this, the COVID-19 tally in the state reached 1056660 with 2888 active cases.
