32-year-old man held for raping differently-abled woman in Odisha’s Balasore

Bhubaneswar: The police have arrested a 32-year-old man on charges of raping a differently-abled woman in Balasore district of Odisha yesterday.

The accused has been identified as Baidhar Singh of Gajamba village under Oupada police station in Balasore.

The victim, a resident of Udala area in Mayurbhanj district, was staying at the house of her elder sister’s in-laws at Badapokhari near Oupada, sources said.

Taking advantage of the absence of the victim’s sister and brother-in-law, the accused allegedly brought her towards Soro on the pretext of lodging her in a shelter house for differently-abled people yesterday morning.

The accused allegedly raped the victim, a visually and hearing impaired woman, in a forest near Manipur village and fled the spot, sources said.

On being informed by the locals, Soro police reached the spot and rescued the woman.

The police later nabbed the accused after registering a case in this regard.

“The victim has been sent to shelter house after medical examination while the accused was produced in a local court,” said a police officer.
