32-YO Odisha woman raped, brutally assaulted; succumbs

Sambalpur: After being allegedly raped and brutally assaulted, a 32-year-old woman succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) on Thursday evening.

Reportedly, the victim, a resident of Deogarh  police station area of Deogarh district, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition around five days ago.  Her family members admitted her when she complained of severe stomach pain. When doctors at the hospital found deep injuries in her private part and asked her about it, she disclosed about her brutal ordeal. After raping her, the miscreant had allegedly inserted a stick like material into her private part leaving her critically injured.

On Thursday evening, she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.  However, it is yet to be ascertained whether she was raped by one miscreant or it was a case of gang-rape.

The hospital police outpost said post-mortem report will reveal everything. Meanwhile, the Burla police registered an unnatural death case and intimidated their Deogarh counterpart about the incident.
