34 geriatric clinics for elderly patients in Odisha soon. Know where

Bhubaneswar: Elderly patients in Odisha can soon avail special treatment at geriatric clinics across the state as 34 such health centres have been proposed to be set up under National Health Mission, an official of the Health department said.

The clinics would operate at 34 Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in five cities/towns of the state. As many as 16 clinics for Bhubaneswar, 7 for Cuttack, 8 for Sambalpur, 2 for Rourkela and one clinic for Berhampur have been proposed.

No separate buildings will be constructed for the clinics as these will function at pre-established UPHCs.

While medicine specialist will be available in the clinics once in a week, elderly patients can get physiotherapy treatment thrice in a week.

Equipments for physiotherapy will be procured under National Programme for Health Care of Elderly. While lion’s share of cost for running these clinics will be borne by the Central Government, the rest will be by borne by the state government.
