Bhubaneswar: As many as 35 people have died of suspected heatstroke in Odisha’s Rourkela city since May 30.

The health department has so far conducted postmortem on 24 deceased persons and confirmed that six of them have died due to heatstroke.

The postmortem of the remaining deceased persons will be done soon to ascertain the causes behind their deaths.

A team comprising the local Tehsildar and doctors are assessing the postmortem reports to find out the people who have died of heatstroke in the Steel City.

A high-level team from the Health department, meanwhile, visited Rourkela and talked to the families of the victims as well as the doctors and heath staff of various hospitals in the city.

The team will submit its report to the state government soon.

As per the government data, as many as 96 people have died of suspected heatstroke in the state, mainly in western Odisha, since May 30.

The government has so far confirmed 15 heatstroke deaths in Odisha.
