370 panchayats across Odisha lack high schools

Bhubaneswar: As many as 370 panchayats in Odisha lack high schools, informed School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash in the Assembly today.

In reply to a question asked by BJD MLA from Kuchinda, Kishore Chandra Naik, the minister said steps are being taken to establish high schools in 370 gram panchayats as per the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) guidelines.

He added a directive has been issued to District Education Officers (DEOs) to upgrade Upper Primary Schools to High Schools keeping in view the distance from villages and attendance of students.

Naik had sought a reply from the Minister on how many panchayats in the State lack high schools and what steps have been taken by the government in this regard.
