4 puja committees in Bhubaneswar and its outskirts permitted to perform ‘Rabana Podi’

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has granted permission to four puja committees in the capital city and its outskirts to perform ‘Rabana Podi’ as part of Dussehra celebration today.

The puja committees of Baramunda, Jharpada, Koradakanta and Pahala have been permitted to burn the effigies of demon king Rabana as part of the Dussehra celebration, said an official of the Commissionerate Police.

“Our officials will provide the final approval after inspecting the arrangements made by the puja committees for Rabana Podi ritual,” said the official.

The Commissionerate Police has deployed five platoons of police force in the capital city for smooth conduct of Rabana Podi ritual. It has also laid a set of guidelines for the puja committees to perform the rituals.

As per the guidelines, the puja committees must have procured the firecrackers used in the burning of effigies from licensed cracker shops. Besides, no one would be allowed within 100-metre radius of the site identified for the ritual. Moreover, there must be barricades to prevent the authorized entry.

The puja committees were not allowed to perform Rabana Podi ritual for last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
