Bhubaneswar: A woman reportedly hacked her one-month-old son to death in Telkoi area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district today.

The accused has been identified as Laxmi Juang (35), wife of Guru Juang, of Bimala panchayat under Telkoi police limits, sources said.

The incident took place when Guru was taking rest in their house at around 11 am.

Laxmi hacked the baby boy to death with an axe after smearing sindoor on his head, villagers said.

On being informed, police reached the spot and nabbed Laxmi. It is being suspected that the woman was suffering from psychiatric disorder.

“We have launched a probe into the incident. A scientific team has also visited the spot,” said a police officer.

According to villagers, Laxmi had drowned her one-year-old daughter around four years ago. She was then arrested and sent to jail.
