Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Brahmapur, Mar 23:

At least 40 thatched houses were reduced to ashes in Ambagaon village under Jarada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district when two rival groups in the village hurled crude bombs at each other and set afire houses belonging to members of the other group on Sunday, police said.

Police claimed no one was injured in the arson. Fire tenders rushed to the village located on the Odisha-Andhra border and doused the fire. The quantum of loss due to the fire is yet to be ascertained, police said.

SDPO Chikiti B K Nayak informed that policemen have been deployed in the area and the situation was now under control.

Fearing arrest, almost all male members of the village have fled while only women and children have stayed back in the village, police said.

Nayak said the two groups had clashed around a fortnight ago and had hurled crude bombs at each other. There is old enmity between the groups, but the provocation for the fresh incident is not known and is being investigated, he added.
