Over 40 school kids fall ill after consuming I Day sweets in Odisha

Sambalpur, Aug 15:

As many as 44 school children belonging to different schools under Lipinda panchayat in Odisha’s Sambalpur district were reported ill after consuming sweets (boondi) served to them at their schools on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations.

The boondi like every other year was provided by the Lipinda panchayat authorities.

As many as 44 school children have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital as they suffered from diarrhoea.

Their condition is stated to be stable.

“These school children are from Lipinda panchayat under Jujumara block. They were provided with boondi by the sarpanch. Accidently, some school kids have developed sickness due to food poisoning. It’s nothing that serious. The 44 children who have been admitted here are in a stable condition,” said Samarth Verma, Collector Sambalpur talking to reporters here.

The Collector said an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.
