In a reply to a question by Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray, School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra today said, not a single teacher is there for each class in 32, 553 primary schools of the 34, 238 such schools across the state. In case of 17, 729 upper primary schools, 12, 466 schools do not have a single teacher for each class.

Similarly, 11, 744 upper primary schools don’t have class rooms for every class.

Of the 51, 964 primary and upper primary schools in the state, 39, 635 institutions do not have play grounds. Besides, 29, 944 schools do not have rooms for all classes.

Notably, there are 34, 238 primary and 17, 729 upper schools schools in the state operating under the Department.

Only 4294 primary and 5982 upper primary schools have class rooms for every class. Similarly, 1685 primary and 5260 upper primary schools have teachers for every class. In addition to this, 39, 635 schools do not have playgrounds and 12, 280 schools do not have kitchen facility.

The Minister further said that 17, 763 schools are not surrounded by boundary walls. As many as 368 schools are running in rented houses.

In Sundargarh district, there are 2, 270 primary and 431 upper primary schools which do not have enough infrastructure to provide separate rooms to each of the classes. Of these schools, only 344 schools have a teacher for every class. This draws the picture of the deteriorating education system in the district in particular. As the infrastructure is weak, the education standard is on the decline. Considering this, I demand the state government to pay immediate attention towards this, Dilip Ray said in a statement.
