5 black spots identified in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: In order to prevent road mishaps, five accident black spots have been identified in the Smart City by the Commissionerate Police today.

These black spots are on the roads of Batabhuasuni, Aiginia, in front of Hotel Crown, Acharya Vihar and Pahala.

According to police sources, speed breakers will be installed and road signs will be put up in these places for awareness of commuters.

Similarly, the number of radar speed signs will be increase and more interceptors will be deployed in association with Regional Transport Office.

More such black spots will be subsequently identified in various parts of the city.

As per the data with the state transport department, road accident deaths shot up to 2,672 in the first six months of 2018  from 2,497 recorded in the corresponding period in 2017.

Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty yesterday directed traffic officers to identify black spots or accident-prone zones and put up speed-breakers on the National Highway (NH) passing through Cuttack-Bhubaneswar to prevent fatalities on road.
