At least five persons died of sun-stroke during the second phase elections in Odisha on Thursday due to intense heat wave, reports said.
Reports from Kendrapara said a 70-year-old man Rupa Sethi fell ill in his house after casting his vote at the polling booth at Balabhadrapur primary school of Laxminarayanpur panchayat under Derabish block. He was rushed to Chhata Community Health Centre and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital where the doctors declared him as brought dead.
In another incident, Gendei Mallick, an 80-year-old man of Dingeswar village of Palasola panchayat in Jagatsinghpur district fell unconscious inside the polling booth at Dingeswar Upper Primary School.
He was rushed to the district headquarters hospital where he was declared as brought dead.
Besides, former sarpanch of Rambhadeipur panchayat under Jagatsinghpur block died on the way to his house after casting his vote.
There are reports of two more sunstroke deaths in the Mayurbhanj district
