5 girl students allegedly fall sick after having food at Nua-O fest in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Saraskana: As many as five female students allegedly fell sick today in a hostel of Harishchandra Vidya Mandir at Pandada village under Saraskana block in Mayurbhanj district, due to food poisoning. It is said that one of the hostel inmates died under mysterious circumstances.

The deceased inmate was identified as eight-year-old Saudamini Marandi. She was a student of Class III in the school.

According to a source, the female students had taken non-vegetarian food earlier in the day at the Nua-O fest held in local panchayat office.

Saudamini was sick for the last couple of days and was not keeping well, the source added.

Four of the girl students were admitted to a hospital in Sirsa for treatment. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Baripada after their condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, Saudamini’s family has alleged that she was given the wrong medical treatment at the hostel without informing them.

Mayurbhanj Collector Ashish Thakare and Superintendent of Police S Susree have met the students.
