5 held over illegal arms trade in Odisha’s Cuttack; 5 guns & 50 ammunition seized

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today claimed to have arrested five persons in connection with illegal arms trade in Cuttack city of Odisha.

Three 9 mm guns, one 7.65 mm guns, one 8 mm country-made pistol and around 50 ammunition have been seized from the arrested persons, said Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra at a press conference in the Silver City.

The police have also seized one four-wheeler and two two-wheelers and six mobile phones from the arrested, added the DCP.

The arrested have been identified as Bapi Jena alias Kalia of Madhupatna, Durga Das Nanda of Jagatsinghpur, Muhammad Rahim, Sheikh Washim and Asiq Samal. All the accused are habitual offenders and they have been booked in several cases of crime at various police stations in Cuttack city and its immediate surroundings, said the DCP.

“As per our information, Muhammad Rahim and Sheikh Washim were associated with the Dhalasamanta brothers’ gang,” added the DCP.

The DCP further revealed that the Commissionerate Police has been keeping tab on the activities of habitual offenders, dreaded criminals and people involved in illegal arms trade in Cuttack and on its outskirts.

“We are determined to make the city crime-free. We will continue our efforts to take stern action against the criminals,” he said.
