5 injured in acid attack during group clash in Odisha’s Nuapada; 2 critical

Khariar: As many as five persons belonging to two different groups were injured today in an acid attack during a clash that took place in Duajhar village under Khariar police limits in Nuapada district.

Three injured were identified as Manijar Saraf and his two sons Vijay and Dhananjay from one faction. The remaining two were identified as Ghanashyam Saraf and his wife Santoshi from another faction.

According to a police source, the persons belonging to both groups are goldsmith families.

The two families had a dispute over the making of jewellery in another village. They were often indulging in altercations over the dispute. Earlier in the day, a verbal spat erupted between the families near Duajhar river when they were on their way to the nearby village for jewellery making.

Things took an ugly turn when both the families threw acid on each other group members.

The injured persons were rescued and admitted to a government-run health facility in Khariar in critical condition. Later, they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Nuapada after their condition deteriorated, informed Khariar hospital in-charge Dr. Ranjit Rout.
