7 Scandals That Shocked Ollywood

Ollywood is no stranger to scandals—be it secret affairs, love nests or recorded CDs. These scandals have been some of the biggest newsmakers and have raised many eyebrows.

1. Dushmant’s Wedding Woes

On the eve of actors Dushmant Panda and Kajal Mishra’s wedding, the ex-flame of the groom, Priti Mohanty sat on a dharna outside the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar. Her claim: Dushmant ditched her after marrying her and a two-year live-in relationship. Priti furnished pictorial evidence to support her claim. Though Dushmant refuted the allegations, he went underground for some time and later surrendered before sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM). Ollywood sources say that Kajal was the only one gracing the stage and Dushmant was nowhere in sight at the reception of the wedding.

2. The Album Queen

Also known as the Album Queen of Ollywood, Deepa Sahoo also played a negative character on a popular television serial. A one night stand with a foreigner added one lakh rupees to her bank account. This sexual escapade was recorded by the mediator of this deal. He went on to blackmail Deepa into sleeping with him and paying him half of the deal's money for the recording and later, made the video clip public.

3. Trip to Puri

Superstar Arindam and actress Elina made a trip to Puri that made headlines everywhere for all the wrong reasons. A physically abused Elina was found in a hotel room by the locals. She pressed charges on Arindam for physically exploiting her in lieu of making her the female lead in one of his films. Elina later withdrew the FIR.

4. Choreographer’s Deogarh connection

Ollywood choreographer Lubun’s image as a superhit music video director was tarnished as he was put behind bars for blackmailing an upcoming actress from Deogarh. In the pretext of giving her a break in the movies, he had called the girl to a shooting location, drugged her and allegedly shot pictures of her after raping her. He demanded about Rs 2 lakhs in lieu of the pictures. Later, he broke marriage alliances of the girl as well.

5. Bidding Ollywood Goodbye

A promising Bengali actor with about eight Odia movies under her belt, Megha Ghosh was in a relationship with producer Satyapriya Behera. Behera was the producer of an unreleased movie, by the name Khiladi No.1 with Megha as the female lead. He allegedly made a CD of their sensual encounters but did not keep it behind closed doors. He circulated the video clip and Megha left Ollywood, never to return.

6.  Alcoholic-Turned-Swami

One of the superstars of Ollywood, Sriram Panda was a well-known womaniser and a victim of alcohol abuse, as alleged by Ollywood insiders. Spurred by his female co-stars and under the burden of financial debt, the handsome actor chose to renounce the materialistic world and became Swami Nitya Chaitanya. The Odia film industry was left aghast and his wife and children were left to fend for themselves.

   7.  The Golden Couple

Prashant Nanda and Mahasweta Ray were one of memorable on-screen couples of Ollywood who had the audience in awe of them for years with their chemistry. However, a leading daily in the state once published an article on their alleged off-screen relationship that made the Bou of Ollywood see red. After her vehement objection, the article was taken down.
