5 seniors of Binayak Acharya College rusticated for ragging junior girl student, more actions to follow

Berhampur: The authorities of Binayak Acharya College in Berhampur City of Ganjam district rusticated five students today afternoon for their alleged involvement in a ragging incident that recently took place inside the educational institution campus.

Disciplinary action came close on the heels of an internal anti-ragging committee’s report and preliminary investigation of the incident conducted by Badabazaar police in the city. More actions will soon follow in the days ahead, the college principal Smt Pramila Khadanga said.

Police administration had recommended the names of at least 12 accused students for rustication, which has been accepted by the college authorities. Out of the five accused detained so far, three are adults and two others are minors, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M informed mediapersons.

The key accused is a history-sheeter and was earlier forwarded to court by Badabazaar police, the SP added.

“The main perpetrator student Abhishek Nahak (alias Bunty, aged 22 years), +3 Second Year Arts and others involved of the college has been established and detained at police station for questioning,” a notice issued by Badabazaar police to the college authorities for production of relevant documents stated.

Notably, Badabazaar police previously registered a case (No-308, Dated-16.11.2022 under Sections 294/292 (A)/342/354(A)/354(B)/509/506/34 of the Indian Penal Code written with Section 12 of the POCSO Act and Sections 67/67(B) of the Information Technology (IT) Act, in this connection.
