5-T effect: Two Odisha govt officials suspended on graft charges

Malkangiri: The State government today suspended the Malkangiri District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Malkangiri under the 5-T programme for their alleged involvement in corruption.

Based on an inquiry report submitted by the Malkangiri Collector, DSWO Swarnalata Biswas and CDPO Biplua Sardar were placed under suspension.

As per reports, Bipula had allegedly misappropriated government funds and was involved in percentage commission activities while working as Supervisor in Korakonda and Padia blocks. For the same reasons, she was suspended earlier. Despite being a tainted Supervisor, the DSWO had recommended Bipula’s name to the District Collector for promotion.

The Collector then asked the DSWO to first inquire the corruption charges against Bipula before promoting her. But the DSWO ignored the Collector’s directive and promoted Bipula as a CDPO.

The Collector had sent a report about the two officials to the State government following which disciplinary action was taken against the duo today.
