Malkangiri: In a tragic mishap, at least five workers died and as many suffered critical injuries after a tipper truck overturned in Swabhiman Anchal of Malkangiri district in Odisha here today.

As per reports, the cement-laden vehicle was carrying the workers from Chitrakonda to Jodamba when it overturned near Hantalguda ghat.

Border Security Forces personnel reached the spot on getting information and carried out rescue operations. The injured victims have been rushed to the hospital at Badapada and are undergoing treatment.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the incident. He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the next of the kin of each deceased persons from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).

The Chief Minister also asked the Health department officials to ensure free treatment to the injured persons.
