Khordha: A 5-year-old boy died, and his mother was injured after a tanker truck hit a scooter on the NH-57 in Khordha district today.

The deceased boy Binayak Das was an LKG student at a private school at BDA Colony in Khordha town.

The incident occurred at Bhaliabadi Chhak on the NH-57.

According to reports, Baijayanti Das of Gandhi Padia was returning home along with her 5-year-old boy from school on her scooter when a speeding tanker truck hit the two-wheeler from behind.

While Baijayanti sustained injuries after falling off the scooter, the truck ran over her son killing him on the spot.

The locals managed to catch the truck driver, who was trying to escape from the spot following the incident.

The injured woman was taken to the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), from where she was shifted to Bhubaneswar for treatment.

The Khordha Town Police seized the body of the minor boy.

Reacting to the incident, the irate locals staged a road blockade, demanding a speed breaker on the main road. Khordha Additional SP Kishore Chandra Mund rushed the accident site for discussion with the protestors to clear the road.

Till the last report came in, the protest was underway disrupting the vehicular traffic from both the sides on the NH.
